Pervolia Pervolia, Cyprus 2023-ongoing

Pervolia is a residential project located in Larnaca, Cyprus. The development is divided into two phases, each comprising 40 plots. The developer’s intention was to repeat various housing types throughout the site. The project’s initial challenge was understanding how to design adaptable typologies without knowing their exact placement in advance. While the houses could be categorized by area and plot size, the site itself presented diverse characteristics and orientations. This raised the question: how can typologies be designed to remain contextual without a predetermined fixed condition?

To address this, we recognized the necessity of compromise and tolerance to achieve repetition. Recognizing types will respond differently according to specific conditions of each site, then the design approach relies on what the spatial experience be, in addition to a compromised contextual approach. It focuses on the experience of the inhabitants around the building. Inhabitants and buildings are interdependent, one cannot exist without the other. Experience here relies on the act of moving through space and recognizing proximities and relationships.
