ReverberationsLarnaca Biennale, Cyprus 2025

The traces of our lives can be stimulated by the sounds that we have lived through. A simple sound can have the power to evoke a memory that can lead us to a sense of warmth and comfort or transcend to moments of sadness, pain and anger even beyond our physical space. Sound is a constant, subconscious experience, and as humans, we exist within its shared presence. It is a unifying element that often goes unrecognized, yet it is essential to our daily lives. Its influence extends beyond the individual, shaping how we move, interact, communicate, and coexist with our surroundings.

“Reverberations of Uncertainty” embodies the fluidity, unpredictability, and multiplicity inherent in both sound and silence and their impact on our memories. In this installation, the selected sounds will reflect everyday moments and the sudden emotional shifts that can be triggered by ‘explosive’ auditory experiences, symbolizing the sensitivity of the political and societal fabric of the region.

In contrast, silence offers a powerful counterpoint, serving not just as the absence of sound but as a presence that invites introspection and reveals deeper truths. Within the region’s turbulent context, silence can act as resistance, providing a space for marginalized ‘voices’ of people and nature often drowned out by dominant narratives. This experiences aspires to emerge and inspire an awareness of the narrative of our sounds and the thread it creates amongst us. We are all subjective to our acoustic surroundings thus the ties it holds.
